Welcome to the TOEFL ProPlacer® test!

The TOEFL ProPlacer® test is a placement test that can assess your enabling skills in English and place you into an appropriate class level in New Oriental.

This test has 2 stages: You need to complete an initial set of questions (Listening, Vocabulary and Grammar) first, and then you will be assigned a second set of questions (Listening, Vocabulary, Grammar and Reading) based on the accuracy of your responses.

It will take about 30 minutes to complete. Work alone and do not use any other applications during the test. Try your best to answer all of the questions correctly.

General Directions

In this test, each question has a time limit. A clock at the top of the screen will show how much time remains before the next question appears. If you are ready for the next question before time is up, you may click "NEXT". If you do not make an answer, the system will automatically go to the next question when the time is zero.

Listening: Paraphrasing

Directions:

You will listen once to a sentence. You will then read 3 sentences and choose the one with the same meaning as the sentence you heard.

You will have 15 seconds to answer each question.

Listening: Responding

Directions:

You will listen once to a sentence or question. You will then read 3 sentences and choose the best response to the sentence you heard.

You will have 15 seconds to answer each question.

Vocabulary

Directions:

You will see a word on the screen and four options. Select the word that is closest in meaning to the first word.

You will have 20 seconds to answer each question.

Grammar: Build a Response

Directions:

You will read a sentence. You will then build a sentence to respond to the first sentence.

To build the response, move the words in the boxes to form a response that is appropriate and grammatically correct.

You will have 35 seconds to answer each question.

Grammar: Build a Question

Directions:

You will read a sentence. You will then build a question to respond to the first sentence.

Reading: Missing Letters

Directions:

You will read a paragraph. Some letters are missing in some words. You will type in the missing letters to complete the words. When you complete the words, the entire paragraph will make sense.

You will have 7 minutes to enter the missing letters in the paragraph.

Please fill in all the blanks before you push on the "NEXT" button.
